Altec Lansing VS4121
Today I'll be reviewing one of Altec Lansing's new products, the VS4121 speaker set. This set is a 2.1 system which stands for 2 speakers and 1 sub…. Hence, 2.1. Altec Lansing doesn't cease to amaze me with their incredibly well built products. The VS4121 is no exception.
Let's take a look at the features of this bad boy:
31 watts of power. 6 for each speakers and 19 for the subwoofer provide plenty of power for a small room.
Two 28mm full-range and one 3" mid-bass driver deliver crisp, detailed sound.
One 6.5" long-throw driver for the subwoofer provides plenty of oomph and can hold up to loud explosions and music with lots of bass.
At only 9 inches high, the speakers are slim and sturdy.
Headphone jack for when your mom or wife don't want to hear you playing Call of Duty.
Alright, so just how good do these bad boys sound? Well, the great thing about this speaker set is that you can hook it up to all sorts of things such as your computer and videogame system.
I tested these sets on my PC and listened to many, many MP3s and audio CDs. Music sounded great with no distortion and plenty of details for highs and lows. After the music testing, I loaded up the wonderful Call of Duty game and started taking out enemy tanks and infiltrating enemy territory. What a difference a good speaker set makes when playing PC games! Explosions didn't go boom… they want KABOOM!!!!!
Next up, I connected these bad boys to my Xbox and popped in non-other than the king of Xbox games, HALO. As soon as the singing monks came on in 2.1 glory I was sold on these speakers and 2.1 technology. For anyone with a videogame console, whether it be Xbox, PS2, or GameCube, and not a lot of space, this system will makes your audio dreams come true.
Overall, the VS4121 set from Altec Lansing is a winner! Great sound, great speaker design and a great price tag of only $99 make this 2.1 system a great buy and definitely get our personal recommendation. Editor's Choice.
