Beyond Good & Evil
There comes a time when a great game comes around that it takes the gaming press by storm; a game so good that it receives incredible reviews and countless editor's choice awards. Yet, regardless of such acclaim, the game is overshadowed by other more popular games based on licensed material. The mass consumer that makes up the majority of gamers cares not for great games, rather for the latest licensed game or the year's "new" sports games. Great games that are far superior to any licensed or rehashed sports garbage do not see the success they rightfully deserve.
One such game is Beyond Good & Evil, perhaps this console generation's best action adventure game, created by the same folks who brought you Rayman. Only two paragraphs into the review and so much praise you would think more people would have bought this game, sadly they didn't. Why? People are stupid.
There are two kinds of videogames, those which you play like all others, and those which you experience! Playing Beyond Good & Evil is an experience you will never forget, much like the first time you rescued Princess Peach in Super Mario Bros. and knew that it could only get better as time went on.
Beyond Good & Evil is a very entertaining action adventure game similar to the Zelda franchise, only better. A big part of Beyond Good & Evil's appeal is the incredibly rich storyline of government lies and conspiracies and one girl's journey to save her friend and the world. By the end of the game you will have connected with the characters and felt both their pain and triumph.
The world of Beyond Good & Evil comes to life with an array of colorful characters, all unique and special in their own way. From a talking pig to Jamaican rhinos, Beyond Good & Evil's world is far different from anything you're accustomed to.
Visual quality is top-notch due in part to the well-developed characters. Fluid animations, no jerky movements and no slow down even when there is tons of action on screen. And believe me; the action never lets up in this game!
The entire package comes together with an incredible musical score that rivals that of big-budget films. Thundering orchestral arrangements burst through your speakers while ambient, soft melodies flow gracefully through the air like a butterfly on a perfect spring morning. As if that wasn't enough, the voice-acting is also stupendous! Many developers should take note: Hire talented voice-actors, you'll receive higher review scores!
Overall, Beyond Good & Evil is hands-down the best action adventure game on Xbox and one of the best overall on any console. Production values that rival those of Oscar worthy films elevate Beyond Good & Evil to Hall of Fame status and easily earns our editor's choice award. It's a true shame that we probably will never see a sequel due to lackluster sales. So please, if you see this game sitting on a store shelf near you, do yourself a favor and buy it. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Ubisoft, for developing and publishing an exquisite work of art. If only all games were this good.
