I-Ninja

He might be small, but he's one angry Ninja! I-Ninja has spent years mastering his weapons and honing his skills and must now put them to good use to defeat the world's most wicked villain, Master O-Dor and his army of Ranx. You'll traverse through 5 huge environments in order to free your people and defest O-Dor!

I-Ninja is a great example of what an action-platformer should be. Action comes from using weapons such as shurikens, swords, blowguns, rocket launchers, and guided missiles. The platforming action kicks in when you have to jump-kick up a wall, run across another wall, jump onto a moving platform, then run down a ramp, speeding past everything in your sight. One thing that is done great in I-Ninja is the balancing of great gameplay and simplistic, but above-all, fun moves! You'll be walk-running, hovering, or just plain kicking some Ranx ass in no time at all. It's a pick up and play game.

Visually, I-Ninja has a nice cartoon look to it that will appeal to the young kids but also to the big kids. Environments have that soft, cartoonish 3D look and feel that really fits the game nicely. Characters models are also fun and lighthearted with great animation. The only downfall is the lack of noticeable difference between PS2 and GameCube versions, just another port across all 3 platforms.

Sound is nothing special in I-Ninja. The one thing that saves it are the funny 'zingers' that Ninja delivers with his Sensei. Aside from that, there not much there, you got your normal, been there, done that, quirky game music that we've all pretty much become accustomed to in platfomers.

Overall, I-Ninja is a well developed game and a nice surprise. Xbox doesn't have many platformers, so I-Ninja is a welcomed addition. A little more polish and this one could have been an instant classic a la Mario. Despite its shortcoming, I-Ninja manages to be something that most games forget to be, fun and enjoyable. For that, I applaud you Namco.

Report Card:
Gameplay = 8.5
Graphics = 8
Audio = 7
Replay Value = 8
Overall: 8/10
