Mech Assault

If there is one thing Microsoft can do, its hype a game for all its worth. Microsoft did just that and it worked! Many times games are hyped only to end up being average or even horrible games. With Mech Assault you get a nice addition to your Xbox library that should not be missed.

If you are an action buff then you have to check out Mech Assault. As you may already know, Mech Assault is a 'giant robot' game. It is the 31st century and you control 40-foot tall BattleMechs (giant robots) and accomplish missions that are given to you by your superiors.

The game's single player campaign puts you in control of a BattleMech as you progress through many levels of gameplay each consisting of various objectives. Most levels and objectives are different and offer loads of fun.

Another plus for Mech Assault is the ability to play online through Xbox Live! The gameplay is lag free and can support up to 8 players, content download and voice! Buildings will be demolished, people will lose, and one will be victorious! Mech Assault is a fun 'destroy everything' arcade game that delivers. For those wondering, the new downloads will be available in January, 2003.

The controls in Mech Assault are pretty easy. The Left Trigger is used to change weapons while the Right Trigger is used to fire the weapon that you selected. While playing Live, the White Button will bring up the scoreboard while the Black Button will allow you to talk to other players online. To move your BattleMech you will use the Left stick and when the Left stick is pressed in, your BattleMech can use a jet pack to soar to new heights. The Right stick is used to rotate the BattleMech and used to aim while firing. It is pretty easy to get used to the controls. You should have them down in a few minutes.

Visually, Mech Assault is really impressive. The BattleMechs and buildings are extremely well done and the FMVs are impressive! The beauty of the visual side shines when you destroy building with your missiles. You'll see the building crumble into a pile of nothing! Its awesome! The weapon effects are also well done. Missile smoke trails everytime you fire a missile. Laser beams light up the surroundings as you go on your rampage. Destruction has never looked so good.

Sound wise, Mech Assault will leave you amazed. Dolby Digital 5.1 never sounded so good. Voice acting is well done. Buildings are demolished with a roar of your speakers. Weapons sound awesome. The music kicks in when there is action going on and its a bit hard techno and rock mixed together for a nice combination that works in this game.

Overall, Mech Assault will be a great addition to your Xbox library. Great visuals, sound, and a whole lot of fun, not to mention Xbox Live support. You can't go wrong with Mech Assault. Do yourself a favor and check it out!
