Rainbow Six 3
Ubisoft delivers once again! First it was Ghost Recon, then Splinter Cell, now they give us Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six 3, a game so good it should be illegal.
In RS3 you play as Ding Chavez, leader of an international anti-terrorist unit named Rainbow. Your one and only concern is to rid the world of those pesky terrorists and save innocent hostages.
14 missions make up the single player of Rainbow Six 3. You’ll have to be very careful as you go through each mission because there is no mercy here. One shot to the head and it’s over for you. Don’t get this confused with Quake, where you can take shot after shot and keep going like nothing happened. In RS3 all shots will affect your performance, so watch out!
The game also supports Xbox Live and last thing I heard it was the most played Live game!
The real fun comes from controlling your team members: Louis Loiselle, Eddie Price, and Dieter Weber. You can order them to cover you, to open doors and throw a flash or gas grenade inside to clear the room and so much more. It actually feels like you are playing with real people. You come to rely on your team so much that you’ll actually feel heartbroken if one should happen to die in the line of fire.
The controls are as follow: The Left Trigger is used to quickly change your weapon while the Right Trigger is used to fire your weapon. A is your action button, X is your reload button, Y is for Night Vision, while B is for Thermal Vision. Black and White are used to control your team. The Left and Right Thumbstick control your character. Last but not least, the D-Pad is used to Peek and Open/Close doors.
Visually, Rainbow Six 3 is stunning! Originally it was not going to look like this but the smart people at Ubisoft decided to give it a full blown "Splinter Cell" makeover. I say Splinter Cell because it is using graphic technology used in Splinter Cell. So you can imagine how gorgeous this game looks. Super sharp graphics with incredible detail and extraordinary lighting effects. Definitely one of the prettiest games on Xbox; the others being Halo, Dead or Alive 3, and Splinter Cell.
Sound effects are spot on. Weapon sounds are great and you actually feel like you fired that weapon (if you have surround sound w/ a subwoofer). Which brings me to my next point: Dolby Digital 5.1 support! Wow, if ever there was a time to invest in surround sound it is now. Voice acting is pretty good, with only a couple voices that could have been better. Speaking of voices, you can use your own to give orders to your team (if you have an Xbox Communicator). How cool is that?
Overall, Rainbow Six 3 is a must buy. One of the best games of 2003. Great gameplay, visuals, and replay value. Ubisoft has once again blessed all the Xbox owners with a AAA title that surpassed all hype. Editor’s Choice!
