Street Hoops

Street Hoops is a game that tries to emulate the attitude and style of real street basketball but in the end falls short of capturing the beauty that is street ball. The in game graphics and meny graphics are both dull and shallow. The game has about 15 people that wear different clothes but basically look the same which is quite a shame. The courts are about the only things that look good but the background and the horrid spectators in the background are repetitive. When you play Lord of the Court or World Tournament, you notice once you pick your team that you have some stores in front of you. The stores look like they are from old Super Nintendo game, they are just horrible.The clothing and the jewelery are also horrible for the amount of money you have to earn to get them.

The games start out with the usuall logos and then it goes into a movie. Then it has another one with a song from DMX in the background. The games menus are simple but get the point across. There are many menus in this game for pretty much everything you want. Nothing special or groundbreaking here. The sound is very good at the beggining but then it get worse every time you pop in the game. The game gives you the choice to put in your own music which is cool but it has one problem. Once in a while it starts to skip and some times you lose your concentration and lose the game. The sound track consist about 20 songs that are new and old tracks. The new one is by DMX and the rest are old and pretty horrible to listen to after a while but with a surround sound I guess you can see right through that. Overall, the sound is OK.

The game is really a fast paced game and really contains almost no slow down. The game has a lot of things to do so it will keep you busy for a while. The game consists of 5 signs (different) that lead to everywhere you want except practice and 3 point shot out. The game has a lot of good moves and great passes which is the bulk of the game and some moves you have to unlock with world tournament mode. The tone of the game is just to win and see if you can break their ankles (trick them into falling).

Overall, Street Hoops is a game that had potential but fell short, probably by publisher deadlines or maybe the developers actually thought this was a good game. Not worth a purchase, but it is worth a rental.

Report Card:
Gameplay = 8
Graphics = 4
Audio = 6
Replay Value = 7
Overall: 6.7/10
